One question I asked was what the trailers next to Furnas hall were doing there. The answer I recieved was that they were the offices of grad students that there wasnt room for inside of the real buildings so they were put outside waiting for a new building to be built.
The best techinal aspect of the trip that magnetic levitator. This was a device with an electromagnet and a photocell which was sensitive to the position of an object blocking it. The best non-technical aspect was the fact that we saw the campus and were given a more private tour than we would have otherwise have been given if we had come as tourists.
This trip was definately worth while because we were able to see the campus and were given demonstrations of things that we couldnt normally see in everyday life.

Yesterday our class took a trip to UB's North Campus so that we could see its engineering department. We were able to see a number of buildings and labs that are used for student use in chemical, electrical and computer sciences. We were able to walk around the campus and see what UB had to offer.
I found the trip very informative, as I will be attending UB in the fall of 06. I was disappointed that we weren't able to view the dorms or the south campus at all but I was able to obtain information about the school by asking the instructors/tour guides. I asked what the major of architecture entailed to a new student coming in. I was told that nearly all freshmen have the same courses and the only addition would be that I would have a studio period where I get to work on drawings/projects.
The best technical part of the trip I felt was when we went to see the electrical demonstrations. We were able to see certain levitators and other unique electrical equipment. The best non-technical part of the trip was when we were able to go and eat. I liked this because I was able to see how the food is at the place where I will be living for the next couple years. Overall I felt that this was one of the better one day field trips that I’ve ever been on and it opened my eyes to many things that I will experience soon in the future.

1. While on the UB Engineering Depy. feild trip there were many questions asked through out the tour. One of the questions that i asked was how long it takes them to make a model of a object in the layer proto-type machine.
2. The responce that i recieved was that it took anywhere from 20 to 100 min. And the person that I asked made sure to tell us that the objects made in the machine were only for proto-types not mass production.
3. The best technical aspect of the trip was getting a first hand view and demonstrations of the rooms and technologies you would be working with in your classes when you go to college for that certain major.
4. The best non technical aspect of this trip was the laid back nature of everybody and the fact that we wernt really there to learn something for high school but to walk through the buildings as a college freshman going through a tour to figure out what major he wants to do.
5. Personaly I think that this trip was worth while and was actually better than the Wilson Greatbach trip. I would say that this is a good field trip to make a normal tour to go on when your in edd to get your mind really working to try and deside what field of engineering you want to go into if you do go into engineering at college.

On the field trip, when we were in the water flow laboratory, I asked which LAB on campus was the biggest in size. As it turns out, the building next to us at that point, held the largest lab. It was the earthquake test facility, which they had full size townhouse inside that they did testing on. I thought that the water flow testing was the awesomest thing I have ever seen, I want one. I liked that for the most part, we were air conditioned the whole time on the trip. Bonner hall was kewl too. This trip was definately worth the missed day in school, it gave excellent insight toward the engineering fields.

On the field trip I asked how much weight the levitator could hold. He didn't give me a straight answer but what he did say is that they are capable of holding a great amount of weight, for example it is used for some trains. Although that particular one that they had wasn't able to hold that much weight.
The best technical aspect of the field trip I believe was the water flow tester. I thought it was amazing how it was moving a great volume of water so fast. The best non-technical aspect of the trip was being able to sit in on that one computer programming class. We got to get a feel of what a real class is like and the students were able to give us good advice for when we go to college.

To me the best technical part of the field trip was insied Furnace Hall there was an automotive shop with vehicles that they built. Every year they build a Baja vehicle, a snowmobile, and a foumula 1 race car. Then they compete against other schools. I hope that the college that i go to has the same thing because thats somthing that i would like to do.
To me the best non-technical part of the field trip was sitting in on the class and watching how the teachers are in collage. We also got some good advice from the collage students. It was nice to hear from some people that are actuall going through the collage process, to hear from them how they like it and how hard/easy it is.
